Tokon Martial Arts is different - we only want the best for our students and for you. Feel free to come in as a walk-in or call us ahead of time. Here a few frequently asked questions that we try to answer.

What is the minimum age?

We offer classes for children as young as 4 years of age. We offer a free trial class where we asses the students readiness to become a member at Tokon Martial Arts.

Am I too old?

Never! This is the great thing about Karate. It is the perfect activity for any age. Karate develops Mind, Body and Spirit for any student at any age.

What should I wear for my first class?

Come in comfortable workout cloths, suitable for stretching and flexing. Bring a towel and some water.

What equipment do I need ?

If you decide you want to train, you will need a Karate uniform called "gi". You can purchase a gi with us. This will guarantee not only proper size but also an appropriate quality.
Once you have reached the rank of a yellow belt you will have to purchase a mouth guard, as well as some sparring gloves.

Other than that there is no other expense for your equipment. Your white belt is included with the uniform and further belts will be included in your belt tests.

What to expect?

Expect a workout and expect to get to know muscles you didn't know you had. Karate is a full body workout. Karate is not for everyone, equally, there are those who dedicate their lives to Karate. Find out to which group you belong. Since your first class is free there is nothing to lose but only to gain.

Will I get injured?

Our style of Karate does not practice full contact. Therefore injuries are usually not common. We teach mental AND physical control, as well as discipline. We teach Martial Arts and are not a fight club. However, for the training to be realistic bruises are possible for advanced students.

Is Tokon Martial Arts family friendly?

Yes! After all Tokon is a family run dojo. We have many families that train with us. Usually it starts with parents bringing their child(ren) in. After a while they do not only see the benefits but also the change in their child(ren). Many parents realize that their child should have a parent that displays the very same benefits and virtues that Karate develops and join.
